The travertines of Pamukkale

Pamukkale is about 20 km north of the city of Denizli. Wherever you start, the road leads to Denizli first, and from there the travertines are half an hour away. Below are the options from the five places people ask us about most.

The nearest airport: Denizli Çardak

The closest airport to Pamukkale is Denizli Çardak (DNZ), with regular flights from both Istanbul airports; the flight takes a little over an hour. From the airport to Pamukkale is about 70 km, or one hour.

Çardak is a small airport and public transport is sparse, so most arrivals take a taxi or a private transfer from Denizli airport to Pamukkale.

Antalya to Pamukkale

Antalya to Pamukkale is about 245 km by road, roughly 3.5 hours. You have three choices:

  • Bus: frequent services from Antalya bus station to Denizli bus station, about 4 hours, then a dolmuş to Pamukkale.
  • Day trip: leaves early, returns late. You spend about 7 hours on the road, so time at the travertines is short.
  • Private transfer: door to door, with stops where you want them. We also drive straight from Antalya Airport to Pamukkale.

Our advice is to stay one night in Pamukkale. The travertines are cooler and quieter early in the morning and at sunset.

Istanbul to Pamukkale

  • By plane: fly from Istanbul to Denizli Çardak and you can be in Pamukkale an hour and a half after landing. This is the fastest way.
  • By bus: overnight buses from Istanbul to Denizli take 9–10 hours.

From Izmir and Cappadocia

There are buses and regional trains from Izmir to Denizli; by road it is about 3 hours. From Cappadocia the trip is long: Göreme to Pamukkale is about 600 km. Most people take an overnight bus or fly from Kayseri with a change in Istanbul.

From Denizli bus station to Pamukkale

Dolmuş minibuses to Pamukkale leave from the lower floor of Denizli bus station; the ride takes around 30 minutes and drops you in Pamukkale village at the lower entrance to the travertines.
