A balloon ride in Cappadocia takes off at sunrise and floats over the fairy chimneys and valleys for about an hour. It is over before breakfast, but the planning starts a few days earlier.
How a balloon morning works
- You are picked up from your hotel about an hour and a half before sunrise.
- A light breakfast at the launch site while the balloons are inflated.
- The flight lasts about one hour; the wind decides which valley you drift over.
- A small celebration on landing, a flight certificate, and back to your hotel.
The whole thing takes 3–3.5 hours, so you are back in time for breakfast.
How much does it cost in 2026?
Prices vary a lot by company, basket size and season. As a rough guide:
| Flight type | Approximate price per person |
|---|---|
| Standard flight (larger basket) | €80–250 |
| Comfort / smaller basket | €110–450 |
| Private balloon (your group only) | Priced per group, several thousand euros |
The most expensive periods are Turkish holidays, late spring and early autumn; winter is the cheapest. Hotel transfer, breakfast and insurance are usually included, but check when you book.
What if the flight is cancelled?
Balloons fly each morning only with permission from Turkey’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation. If the wind is not right, flights are cancelled that morning, and the company either moves you to the next day or refunds you. Tip: plan at least two mornings in Cappadocia and book the balloon for the first; if it is cancelled, you still have a second chance.
Best season
April–June and September–October have the calmest weather and the best colours. Snowy valleys in winter are beautiful, but cancellations are more frequent. Summer mornings are cool, so bring a light layer.
What to wear
Comfortable shoes and layers: it is cold at dawn and warm next to the burner. A hat and sunglasses help.
